Alistair Walsh
I help researchers, educators, and creative teams understand and apply AI through practical training, research software, and human-centred workflows.
About
I am a Melbourne-based AI educator, data scientist, and research software builder. My work sits at the intersection of practical machine learning, digital research capability, and the translation of complex technology into tools people can actually use.
My PhD research used artificial intelligence and machine learning to model recovery trajectories following stroke. Since then, I have built REDCap automations, FHIR/EMR data pipelines, neuroimaging workflows, and LLM-assisted systems for extracting and reviewing complex information.
Alongside research and engineering work, I have taught Python, data science, machine learning, Unix, high-performance computing, and digital research skills through universities, The Carpentries, Intersect, PyCon AU, and General Assembly.
Focus areas
- AI literacy, teaching, and capability building
- Human-centred research software and automation
- Machine learning for health and neuroscience
- Practical LLM workflows for complex information work
